Bea had been sleeping for a while and when she woke up she had these silly faces on. Reminded me a lot of a little old lady and I enjoyed giggling at her while I took the pictures. The quality isn't very good since they were mostly taken in the dark stairwell. She likes to stick her tongue out. Matt has always said I have a catfish tongue. Now, I don't really know what that means, but both Linus and Bea have the same tongue and it's cute to watch her try to figure stuff out and that includes her tongue. My favorite thing so far about her other than her hair, long fingers, cartoon feet, well... everything I guess, is that when she lays her head on my chest, she will randomly smile and it seems to me (and I know it's just what my mind interprets a random gassy newborn act) that she is recognizing her home for 9 months and it makes her smile to hear something she knows. Her hair kills me. It sticks straight up and I can't tell if it is like her cousin Sam, her Uncle Ryan, or just baby bird hair. She reminds me of a hobbit baby with her hair the way it is, how thick it is, and the hairline along with her giant feet. I almost want to put fake fur on them and have her be a hobbit for Halloween.
At the hospital, she wouldn't stop screaming every time the lady tried to take her picture. I mean screamed and sobbed and I'd been feeding her nonstop since that morning. She'd be fine till the lady came in... three times.
Like father like son. Matt's mini me always wants to be at the computer. Always. It's tough when he keeps falling out of the chair, cries, then wants to get back up and we do that about 5 times before I decide he won't stop falling out of the chair or learn his lesson so I have to stop it. Not fun when the temper tantrum flares. =) I love that everywhere we go, people tell me how cute he is and then say "he must look like his dad." Matt was out the other day with him and a couple people said to Linus, "you are so cute!" and then looked at Matt, "oh, you look just like your dad."
This is Linus trying to bat his eyelashes. He tries to do it and he ends up doing it in slow motion. Sometimes he'll even move his mouth up and down trying to get his eyelids to go. The best is his pretty face he makes. I am not sure where he learned this, but it is exactly the same pretty face his cousin Mikayla used to make when she was little. I love it!
He's just so cute.
This is a picture of his haircut I gave him not too long ago. Not too shabby after the first disaster. He looks like a little boy!! Now I won't have people tell me how cute my little girl is when they are referring to Linus.
So... the day has finally arrived. Little B is coming to join our family outside of the pod! I went to see the doc on Wednesday to see if any progression had been made in this baby having business. Dilated to a 2-3 and contractions coming every 15 minutes or so. Still not enough to go in, but he did tell me they have me scheduled to go in to be induced Thursday at 11am. That was a little earlier than I expected, but ok, let's get this show on the road.
Thursday, Miss A has so generously offered to take Moxie and watch her for the weekend while we are otherwise engaged. She also brought a bag of girl clothes. How did I get so lucky to have such great friends?? I am thankful so many of you are helping out!
So, I called ahead of time like Doc Housel suggested and they told me not to come in yet, they were a little too packed and there were going to be some discharges soon and they'll call me when they know when I should come in. Ugh. Waiting. Waiting . Waiting. By 2, I am a little frustrated since we are having to coordinate with Matt's mom to pick Linus up, have my mom meet us at the hospital, Matt could have gone to work for a bit, and all we've done is sit and wait. Not to mention the small bouts of anxiety that keep coming as I sit and think about it. I finally called them back, maybe there was a shift change and I got lost. I called and they told me to be in by 3:30... yikes, that gives us 3 seconds to get us all finished packing things up and in the car and out the door. I swear I told her it takes us 45 minutes to get there. Oh well.
Matt's mom met us at Ogden Regional so she could take Linus. Which is a good thing since kids weren't allowed anywhere but the lobby unless they were there for a procedure. Stupid flu.
Kirk, Jerri, Thank you so much for watching him those couple of days. It was so helpful and I don't know what we would have done without you! And I know Linus loved being there.
My mom met us inside and so finally we were able to get this show on the road. The CNA led us to our room. 525 (writing it down for posterity). She looked at me and told me to hang on a second, she had to get the small belly band. I felt as big as a house, but apparently I wasn't really all that big. I got the belly band on, the amazingly sexy hospital dress on, and got the monitors all in place so I could just lie in bed and hang out while they monitored me. For 2 and a half hours. I seem to get stuck between shift change a lot. It happened a lot last time. No worries though, I got the greatest nurse! She was toting around with her a paramedic student, he was doing his hours since he was almost done with paramedic school. I actually kind of sighed in relief when she asked if he wanted to do my IV. Not that I have anything against nurses. On the contrary, usually they are good, I just have crappy, skinny, valvey veins. Last time I got 3 sticks and one of the bad ones was the anesthesiologist. I figured that he's been an EMT-I for a while to get to paramedic school and that he's done a few IV's in the field. It has to be tough to do IV's in a moving ambulance. So, this fella, he whipped out the 18g needle, and this time I looked away and practiced my breathing excercises I learned, and yes, it hurt, but he got it in easy breezy. One stick. It hurt the whole time it was in, and I think it was close to the tendon in my arm cause I couldn't type. I couldn't really move my fingers due to the achiness it caused, but there was no way I was going to ask for a new one. It was going fine and I was going to stay put.
I started watching Glee (it's a guilty pleasure) and soon after it was finished, they started the pitocin. I asked the nurse for a birthing ball and she brought it in soon after Glee was finished. I just want to recommend it to anyone who is going to be going through labor anytime in the future. It was so helpful! I sat on it up against the wall. It's supposed to mimic squats but it isn't so hard on your legs and it promotes spontaneous movement to help ease the pain. Which was good. The pitocin started and immediately I was feeling it. Wowzers. I hyper stimulated the first 20 minutes, so I was immediately having the contractions hard and close together. It wasn't has bad as it was going to get, but enough to take my breath away. I put in the first season of Grey's Anatomy and sat on the ball and enjoyed.
Pretty quickly, the doc came in and broke my water... Gross!! I can't even imagine how awful it would be to have that happen in public or at home. If it was just leaking, fine, but the gush??? Ew! Nothing like feeling like I just peed my pants, again, and again. Housel did get a laugh out of me watching a hospital show in the hospital. I just explained I needed something to do and that was what I had. I just started watching this season and hadn't seen any of the first few seasons. While I stayed in bed for a minute to keep catching the amniotic fluid, it was really neat to feel how the contractions worked. They started up at the top and moved down and around literally trying to push the baby out. Last time I didn't feel that, it was all back labor, but this time it was really neat to feel. My mom reminded me that pretty soon I wouldn't care about the mechanics of labor. Of course she was right.
The nurse came back in and pumped the pit up to 8. The paper that records the baby's heartbeat and your contractions measures contractions 0 to 100. I pretty soon I was having contractions every minute or 2 up at 133+. The first one caused me to issue an obscenity because it surprised me. It was a little embarrassing what with my mom there, but I guess it mostly goes with the territory of having babies. I only said one other swear word and that was because the toilet paper roll was a piece of crap! The rest of the experience all I could think was "AAAAAGGGGGHHHHH OWIE OWIE OWIE" And that is pretty much what came out of my mouth. I didn't even get to finish my second episode of season one before the contractions got so strong I didn't know what I wanted. I didn't want to sit, I didn't want to lay down, I didn't/couldn't stand and walk, I wanted to get on all fours but didn't want my bare butt to be bared to all. I just got to where I didn't want anything. I didn't want Matt to touch me, but I wanted him to rub my back, then he did and I didn't want him to anymore. I finally just started to cry. And then realized I forgot to put on my waterproof mascara.
My left hand started to go numb due to the hyperventilating I was doing. I couldn't slow my breathing down. The nurse came in and helped to coach me through the breathing for a bit to help calm me and she got me in a sitting position and showed Matt how to push against my knees to ease some of the pressure. It helped a little. Just not enough. She said that during my check to see how far along I was, I was a 6 but I was progressing very quickly and that was probably causing a lot of the pain and she said I was hyper stimulating a little from the pitocin so that was another factor. She was great by not just going and getting the anesthesiologist. She asked and I just cried and told her I was scared to get one. After getting poked in the spine 3 times last time, I just wasn't interested. She assured me he was amazing and so I caved and told her to get him in. She had me go use the restroom and I must say that is very difficult. Your body doesn't want to pee at a time like this. And as I mentioned before, the stupid toilet paper roll!! It was so stiff, it would only give you a square at a time. I finally cursed it while I went through 3 contractions just to get what I wanted off. I finally quit and used a paper towel.
I am a needle phobe. I hate them, I don't want to be stuck by someone I don't know, I have trouble almost every time they come near me. But I just couldn't stand the transitional phase any more. I think she told the doc that I was terrified, he was very nice to me and gentle and helped coach me through the contractions also. Because I was so scared though, it felt nice to be able to yell through the icky parts like the lidocain and the initial pressure of the poke and the threading of the catheter. Especially since he kept nicking a nerve and making my leg feel like it was being electrocuted. I told him it was the contractions, which to some extent it was, but it was very freeing to yell out my fear. At the same time, he was telling the paramedic student everything that was going on and why things were the way they were. It was comforting for me to know the ins and outs of the epidural. I am not one to say ignorance is bliss with a lot of things and a needle in my spine is one of those things I'd like to know as much as I can. He was telling the student if I felt something/this is why. Or if I felt something else/this is why. He let me know that it takes about 15 minutes for it to get numb, so hopefully I won't progress too quickly and have it all be for naught. Once I started relaxing, I felt very light headed and had a severe headache and my blood pressure dropped. That made me panic in my head, but I was too tired to care. The nurse gave me O2 and in about a minute I felt so much better!! Stupid hyperventilating. =)
The nurse didn't even get a chance to put the catheter in. She checked me and there was baby head hair. I told her there was pressure and she got the gloves on just in case Housel didn't make it. I still felt my feet, I still felt my stomach, Oh My! Am I going to feel the whole thing? I didn't know! Housel got there just in time. I pushed once, her head was out and she tried to cry. She was crying before they could get her on my stomach. Poor little girl was ready to join us. It was really funny that he put her on my stomach back to me. No one verified that she was a girl. I kept waiting and waiting and no one said anything... in the end, she was still a girl =D.
I want to thank Matt for being so great this time around. It's easier to know what to do when I ask for it and having it not be the first time around. Thanks for the back rubs, thanks for holding my hand, and thanks for keeping your thoughts to yourself until after she was born, haha. I'm glad you were able to stay with me in the hospital. Thank you for filling my water and getting me juice and coke at my whims. I love you!
I also want to thank my mom. She was great also. Thanks for helping me move around and not saying anything about me not know what I wanted near the end. It has to be frustrating to sit and watch. Thanks so much for wiping my face with a wet washcloth and for wiping my nose when I cried. And for wiping away my drippy mascara. Thanks for holding my hand and helping me maneuver with all the things hooked up to me. And thanks for being such a great Nana. I love you!
Again, thanks Kirk and Jerri for watching Linus. There is no way to tell you what a help that was!
And Thanks to Miss A for watching Moxie. Even though she came home and pouted at me for 3 days, I am glad you have your dogs to run her ragged. She needed it.
So, Beatrice Grace Bailey made her debut into the world weighing in at 7 pounds (technically it was 6 pounds 15.6 ounces) and 19 inches long. Her head was covered in thick black hair and I think she's beautiful and perfect. And so began the first day of the rest of her life.
So, Matt found the cord to our camera so I was able to charge it and take the pics off of it and take some more... not a whole lot more, but some. This is just a small portion of our summer and what Linus and I did.
This is how my silly monkey sleeps. Always some weird position, he almost always ends up in a little pill bug imitation: arms underneath him, straight so his fingers are touching his toes, his legs curled up underneath him and his butt up in the air. It's so cute. He still does the baby frog thing too, on his stomach with his legs frogged out instead of straight.
This is our first experience with chocolate pudding. I am not a fan, will probably not buy it ever again until my youngest is old enough not to get it everywhere. This green onesie you see is permanently stained with chocolate since I don't have the "mom" laundry skills down and I have no idea how to get chocolate out of clothes. He enjoyed it though and fingerpainted his tray for quite a while. I love that he can get his food EVERYWHERE. His face and hair were covered. He even gets it on the dogs. =)
We all went up to my dad's farm to pick some fruit when they started coming on. I want to say that nectarines and peaches are Linus's favorite thing in the whole world. The first time we went up, he was sick, so he cried for quite a while and he hadn't been around my dad and the 4-wheeler enough that it freaked him out and clung to us like his life depended on it. The second time, he did a lot better. This is Linus eating a peach right from the tree... He soon devoured the whole entire thing and lived on the them pretty much until right after Peach Days and they got too ripe. He sure likes to pick them himself to eat. Good thing he loves fruit. Oh, and the tomatoes got eaten pretty quick around our house also. Thanks Dad!
Just wanted to throw in a picture of Moxie. She sure is pretty and we enjoy her quite a bit around here.... most of the time... my crazy pregnant brain doesn't like her as much as my normal, not stresses brain. Oh, and that's Toad's behind, Michael's crazy dog.
Linus loves the water so much, we decided that to save money, we'd just get a little pool and put it out back. It was so stinkin' hot this summer that it was a great way to cool Linus off. I figured it was our "isolated" backyard, so there was no need to go buy water diapers or a swimsuit so, yes, he is naked. He LOVED it!! He spent quite a bit of time squealing and crawling around the grass and just getting dirty and keeping cool. Moxie would come by and drink the water. It got really funny when she'd put her whole face in the water and blow bubbles out her nose. What a weird dog. She's terrified of the sprinklers but loves standing water... shrug.
This one is of Linus smiling at his Uncle Michael. I've never seen a kid ham it up for someone so much before. As soon as he sees Michael, he does everything he can to get him to laugh. He will do anything for a good Michael laugh.
This one is my favorite of Linus. Pure joy. These are my favorite smiles from him and I can never capture them on camera. I was very happy to catch this one!!
Me and Linus first thing in the morning all cozied up for the first cold morning of the fall. Oh... and guess what he has? Ya, my phone. It's all I can do to hide the thing so he doesn't call people. That day he called Nana and left a long message on her phone saying "dadadadada" the whole time. LOL.
I was able to get video of him dancing this day, he usually sees the camera and is so captivated by it and wants to play with it that he'll stop dancing. I'm getting better at this stealth camera stuff.
Ok, before I even start this posting, I know how some of you feel about inductions. I know how some of you feel about early inductions. And please, feel free to post your comments and views, but it doesn't change what's going to be happening next week.
Beatrice Grace Bailey is going to be joining our family as her own unit probably October 9th. This is a little earlier than her due date but due to a few circumstances, I have talked to my doctor and we have both decided that to induce me the evening of the 8th would not be harmful to myself or Little B.
My anniversary is October 13. I know this is a selfish reason for early induction, and really it is just one of the reasons, I felt it was best to long term plan. I don't want to spend 18 years not able to go travel or stay in a hotel or send the kids away for my anniversary because we have a birthday to deal with. Lame, selfish, whatever. I know that mommy/daddy time is important for a marriage and I also know that there is an ingrained idea of what's supposed to happen on anniversaries.
I have written in a previous post about the hip pain that Little B has been giving me and she has moved down enough that it's affecting both hips now. Do you know how ridiculous I look trying to do a flamingo pose while hunched over to adjust the baby? While carrying Linus? Or how embarrassing it is to be walking and to just drop while not being very quiet about the pain I'm having because I can't help it? People start to dial 9-1-1 before I can even smile sheepishly and say I'm ok, it's just a nerve issue and will resolve itself upon delivery.
So, I went to the doctor on September 30th and talked to him about maybe starting me the 9th. Well, he has a plane to catch that evening, so we are going to have me go in the 8th and she'll most likely be born the 9th. How's that for teamwork? He did check to see if I was advancing at all, he said that I was fully effaced, thinned, and to a 2. Oh and he could feel her head. He didn't think I'd even make it to the 8th. I just figure that Matt is going out of town to fulfill son-in-law duties and will be out of cell range so that's when it'll happen. =) I am thinking even more so, though, it will be on Sunday since a storm is coming in and I've heard more women go into labor during storms due to the pressure change. However it happens, I just hope I make it to the hospital in time and everything goes well, seeing as how it's 45 minutes away in Ogden. The things we do for a doctor we like.
Oh, and I didn't even think of this until Matt told me later, but it'd be kinda cool to have her be born on the 9th. That's her Grandma Jeri's birthday. What a special birthday present.
As some of you may know, my mom is the children's librarian at the Brigham City Library. And, as some of you may know, I love to read. When I say I love to read, I mean I am voracious. I even enjoy reading some text books. So....... this comes as a great combination. I find myself an author who I like and then read all of the books they have written. I will list my top favorite authors. -Stephen King -Dean Koontz -Jeffrey Deaver -Patricia Cornwell -Anne Rice -Sara Paretski -CS Lewis (the narnia collection) -JRR Tolkien -Janet Evanovich -LA Meyer -James Patterson
Those are the main ones that I own quite a few of and love to read and re-read over and over. The reason I own SO many books by just these few authors... I can't remember what I want when I get to the library (plus I can't remember to take them back and in SLC, the overdue fees are EXPENSIVE) and I hate to spend so much money on a book that I may or may not hate. I have the perfect solution... my mom reads all sorts of books and then passes them on to me! woohoo!
I just finished the latest book she gave me by a first time novelist named Kathryn Stockett named The Help. I loved it and couldn't put it down. It is about Jackson, Mississippi in the 1960's and 3 different women's perspective, 2 black and 1 white, in the writing of a book about black women's perspective in working for white families.
I know that the '60's aren't so long ago, but that time and in the South is such a foreign concept to me that it was such fiction. My family came from the South, but my Grandma and Grandpa's first house had a dirt floor and the water came from a well. I do know about the rules that women lived by: don't wear pants, it's trashy not to wear shoes, always have your hair and makeup done, etc. But I don't think I come from stock who had "help".
After taking a few college classes where we had a diversity section and then participating in a debate about Martin Luther King, Jr.'s "Letter from Prison", it gave me a better perspective on the fear and the social pitfalls that writing this book in the book would have for all of the women involved. I am so glad things are changing. Slowly, but surely, things are changing for women AND for those who are not white.
I just got back from the hospital not too long ago. I didn't even want to go. Bethany, you dish guilt like the best of the Jewish moms.
Little B has been very active this pregnancy. There are only a few times during a 24 hour period that she doesn't move. At night, when I wake up in the wee hours of the morning is one of those times. It is nice to lay there for a minute just to feel... well... nothing. I finally have to get up to pee or to get a drink or usually both. Not too long after that, she starts her wiggling again. It really is as if she is as uncomfortable as I am and just shifts to find a better position.
I woke up at 5am this morning and got up and got a big glass of orange juice. MMMMM. Laid back down and... nothing. No wiggle worms in my guts. That was a little disconcerting. When I got up with Linus around 8am, still, nothing. Just faint, very faint movements and not very many of them. This girl makes me think I am going to have a "Spaceballs" moment and an alien is going to jump out of my belly and start singing and dancing. So, this faint movement was not normal. I ate more today, drank more juice today, even chugged a soda trying to see if I could get her moving. Nothing. I took a bath which gets her going after and I took a shower. The water hitting my belly makes her kick back. Nothing. I mean, she was moving. I can usually just sit and look at my belly and count 10 movements in 5 minutes. Easy. I had to actually put my hand on my belly and it was 10 movements in 30-45 minutes. So, well within normal parameters, but not for my little girl.
I text my sister and asked if I should call my doc and she said that yes I should. I told her I felt stupid doing it. What if I drive all the way to Ogden to the hospital and it's nothing. I'm going to feel dumb. Her response, "You don't want to be responsible for your baby having cerebral palsy, brain damage, or even to die. You don't know what's going on. It's better to be safe than sorry." Nope, no guilt trip there. I called my doc's office and talked to one of the nurses. I explained that Little B was moving much more than the 10 per 2 hour timeframe, but it was a LOT less than normal. I also explained that I understand that babies have normal sleep and wake cycles by now, but really, she wasn't responding to anything. She told me to go on in to labor and delivery and they'd monitor to make sure everything was a-ok.
Called Matt, called my mom, called Matt's mom and headed to Ogden. Sigh. Why did I have to choose a hospital and doctor so far away? Oh ya, right, customer service.
Got to Ogden and it was a giant monsoon. I am pretty sure Linus and I almost got swept away trying to get into the women's center. I must say, the ladies at the women's center at Ogden Regional, nurses and others, were all very pleasant and nice to me. I could tell there was a little tension going on and that it had been a stressful day for a few of them, but I have to really give them props, not one of them took it out on the crazy lady who came in for monitoring with her 1 year old. =D Luckily my mom was there to help me out with Terrible #1. Especially with all of the electrical plugs and buttons to push, I needed the help with him.
My nurse got me situated and on the monitoring machine and gave me juice and water to drink to get her to perk up. I tried not to be a know it all and tell her that I'd already done that. I figured she was going by protocol and I just sat back and did what she asked. The heart rate sounded good. My blood pressure was a little high, but it has been most of this pregnancy. Higher than it was with Linus anyway and quite a bit higher than it usually is. I am not retaining any water at all though, and don't have any edema, so I think they ruled out toxemia pretty quickly. She got me to lay down on my left side and then left to monitor me. I ended up having a round ligament pain and couldn't breath real well. I have a hard time figuring out what to do to ease that pain. It's pretty much like a charley horse in my lower abdomen and it just gets worse and worse until I find a position that eases it. Right now, I can just roll over off my bed onto the floor and get onto all fours till it passes. Not in a hospital bed. After what felt like forever, it finally eased down and I sat back for the 30 minute monitoring period.
The nurse came back and reassured us all that everything was fine. Now came for the part to make me feel like a complete idiot for going in. I got the lecture about how when babies get a little bit bigger, they run out of room and so the movements are going to get less. I just nodded my head and said yes ma'am, but #1 I'm not so stupid that I couldn't figure that out even if I wasn't reading it everywhere. #2 Linus's movements changed but didn't get any less. He was just as active at 38 weeks as he was at 20. Then she gave me the lecture about what real labor is vs false labor. I tried to explain that I never did think I was in labor, I just went in on the advice of the doctor's nurse. I still got that lecture 3 times though. I understand, I pretty much wasted my time, and she did reassure me that it's better to be safe than sorry, so I did appreciate that. She gave me the number to labor and deliver so I could call them directly and they could tell me if they wanted me in or not.
So, all in all, everything is fine. I had my first panic mom moment which is pretty good considering I have a 14 month old also. (I actually had a panic mom moment which I shared with Matt, and almost went to the ER for, but it turned out to be a hickey Linus had given himself)
Although I am done being pregnant, my belly skin is going numb from the stretching, and I don't think I can stretch anymore, I am glad that everything is ok and B can cook in the oven for a little longer. As much as I talk that she can come now, I really would rather her be safe and healthy. I don't want to have to deal with NICU's or incubators and would like to take her home with me when I go.
I've lost the cord to my camera to plug it in to power up and it doesn't take regular batteries, so I don't know how long I'll be without pictures. (Maybe I can talk Matt into buying me a push present and having it be a camera. hmmm)
I am lately really wishing I was living in a reality tv house so I could have a 3rd person to take pictures of some family times.
Mornings are actually turning into a very cherished time for me with my family. I have been getting up around 5am for pregnancy potty break and Linus then wakes up around 6am for his diaper change and some milk. He'll hang out in his crib until close to 745 when Matt's alarm goes off. Almost every morning, Matt turns on his iphone music, gets Linus out of bed, changes him, then hangs out with him while getting ready for the day. They dance in the bathroom together, usually to something I wouldn't imagine my kid enjoying... Lady Gaga, Pantera, Daft Punk. Matt chases him around the bedroom a little. Linus comes up to me while I'm laying half dazed to give me a slimey, open mouthed kiss and then goes back to playing with Dad. He's started to get very upset when Dad has to leave for work. My favorite though, was the day he gave me my first "real" baby kiss while Matt was holding him. Matt handed him off to me and he had a very confused look on his face. I guess he thought I was going to work that day and he was sending me off.
At the end of the day when Dad gets home, they play together. We cuddle on the bed together, play chase, I usually lay down for a second finally and watch them. The other day, we got the peacock feathers out and tickled each other with them. Of course, Mom and Dad's feathers were better so we had to keep trading off and then Linus would break them.
I love to see how much Linus loves his dad. Me? Not so much. I am the person he sees all day everyday who has had to start discipline. I think we get pretty bored of each other.
We have started to watch Sesame Street together and I love watching him watch it. He is SO enthralled with it. He grins and laughs and as soon as the music starts he starts dancing and clapping.
Recently, he has started to throw temper tantrums. He's been having quite a few meltdowns. It's very interesting to see how he has a little bit of his dad's laidback quality and my stubborn streak. It's been frustrating for me because he isn't talking and he isn't quite old enough to understand when I try to reason with him. It usually involves him trying to plug something in, playing with one of our phones, playing with the ipod, or anything else he really shouldn't be playing with. I try to let him explore, but it's difficult when he ends up dialing 911 or drools so much that the electronics go on the fritz. The best thing though, is he has lately been taking my phone and he'll scamper off to a corner behind a chair or he'll hide behind something so he can play and not have it taken away. Little Stinker! He has even started trying to hide my phone behind his back while walking away so I can't see it. Is this normal for a one year old?
As soon as I get my camera I'll post some pics of my baby getting bigger and some pics of the other baby getting bigger. Crazy days.
Oh, I almost forgot, the bad. I do have a picture of one of these, but I don't think anyone really wants to see it so I'll let you use your imagination on these. My disclaimer... this is about bodily functions like poo and vomit. I CAN NOT believe how much poop comes out of a kid! I don't think he even eats that much!!
One day last week, Matt left for the evening with a few of his friends to take the cement mixer (that hasn't really ever run, has been sitting in my backyard for almost a year, and has been collecting huge spiders) back to the guy who owns it in Ogden. I am not sure why it occurred to me that he'd be back home at a reasonable time, it's not like they don't sit and chitchat for hours upon hours at a time (visualize the eyeroll). Anyway, I decide to give Linus his bath. My bathtub is raised up with 5 inch tiles around the front so it's not like a skinny bathtub rim. It also stands about 2 feet tall and it's a BIG jetted tub. Keep this in mind and also keep in mind that it has gotten to the point that it takes an act of God just to be able for me to bend over to take the plastic plug out to drain it without getting in. Ok scenario set. I'm playing with Linus and he started to zone out. I figured it was because he was tired... ya right. He blinked and looked down and managed to grab a small yellowish green object that floated to the top of the water and put it in his mouth. AAAAAAHHHH! STOP! I realized he had just pooped in the tub and it wasn't very solid pellet like. So, I grabbed a glass nearby to scoop what I could out, pulled the plug out of the tub, and then threw up. There is something completely different about poop in water than poop in a diaper. I couldn't take Linus out of the tub because he was covered in feces, I didn't want it all over my bathroom, I tried to keep him from eating it, while still throwing up. He got in the tub about 8pm and I know this because I have been having very strong Braxton Hicks and the doc wants me to time them. In the hour between 8pm and 9pm I was dealing with this and have a contraction once every 10 minutes. Sigh. It's not like it's labor contractions, but they are strong and very hard and I feel like my gut is about to explode. So, Linus started to freak out about the tub water running (?) I don't know why and I decided to put him in the shower with me. He is getting too big to hold in the shower and I am getting to fat to hold him against me, so I figured I'd let him stand up while I soaped him off. My shower is too small and I am, again, too big to bend over to soap him off so I decided to sit down in the bottom of the shower. Guess who couldn't get up off the floor of the shower? Ya, you guessed it, me. That's who. So, we sat in the shower for 20+ minutes playing and in my convoluted mind, Matt should be home any minute, he's been gone for 3 hours, it's just to Ogden. Any. Minute. But no, it didn't happen. I finally managed to roll myself out of the shower and got Linus to bed. Deep Breath. I called Matt asking if he'd pick up milk on the way home and managed to refrain from sobbing at him that he IS NOT under any uncertain terms allowed out of the house in the evenings ever again until Little B gets here. I ended up just crying and then went to bed. He at least was sympathetic. A little.
Last Wednesday, Matt worked late, so I decided... I'll attempt to give Linus a bath. No way we could have that same night happen again. I was right. It was easy, breezy, and he went right to bed. I finally got in the tub for my evening bath to help relax my back. The water was going and I started to take my vitamins. The fish oil went down with no problem. The multivitamin...uh oh... it got stuck in my throat and the coke I was drinking started to super foam up. Next thing I know, I'm starting to throw up... GET UP... Run to the toilet... don't slip on the tile...Oh, what a mess! It ended up becoming a stomach evacuation extravaganza. Anyone reading this ever been 8 months pregnant and have violent vomiting? There is something to be said for having to use your super stretched core muscles and round ligament pain starts and it's still coming. I took a shower to wash off and immediately went to bed. That takes a lot out of someone. The next day, I was putting my makeup on and noticed the awesome purple spots where I'd broken some capillaries. I might go back to the Flinstones vitamins.
Thursday, do I dare bath time again?? Yes, he needs to be bathed. All went well and I was thankful he waited until I had drained the tub before gracing me with his new tub trademark. Then, Friday, I took a shower and he enjoys showers so much, I figured he could hang out on the floor. Maybe it's the water that stimulates his colon. I don't know, but I have never dealt with so much poop in my life. Matt just laughs. At least he's supportive of me and doesn't laugh at me to my face when I cry. =) I'm so excited to do this again =/ At least I won't be pregnant this next toddler go-round.
