I know that it is a faux pas to talk about politics, but i just wanted to state how I feel about the whole thing.
I am so so so glad to have been able to vote in this historic election. Regardless of who I did or did not vote for, I was very pleased with both of the choices that this country had in the main political parties. I for the most part would have been pleased with either of the candidates and wish that I could see into the future to see what they both would have done to change the current condition of the country.
I do have to say though that I am kind of glad that McCain did not win. And before all of you from Utah get mad at me for this statement, it isn't McCain that I did not like. My personal belief about this fella is this: I think that what he has endured for this country is amazing. He is by far a stronger person than I can ever hope to be. He most assuredly deserves to finally get a chance to be commander in chief after all he has accomplished and all he has done for America and as an American. His road has been very long and hard and I don't think it is fair that he got sick and couldn't run in the previous election he was trying for. I also don't think it is fair that he has had such a hard road and had to follow the Bush administration. I almost think that becoming president would almost be like a reward for his sacrifices. But... (come on, you know there had to be a but in there) I was concerned for his health. He is awfully old and the job of President of the United States is awfully stressfull and his pick for vice president scares the crap out of me. I probably would not have even voted because I would have been so ok with either candidate had he chosen someone else that I felt was more qualified to run the country in the event, heaven forbid, that his health failed.
So with that being said, I am pleased with the outcome of this race and I am very excited to see the changes that are bound to happen in the days ahead. I am hopeful that having an African American president will hopefully start to ease the past injuries that so many are carrying around with them still.
And to end this, because I loved this when I heard it and I feel the same way, I just want to put in the words of Dr. Maya Angelou regarding this country "Look at us, we're growin' up!" and in regards to her status here, "I'm an American baby!"
